The Mentorspace by Inicio is a physical place where participants experience hands-on practice with digital technology and electronics, developing abilities for problem solving, individual learning style and personal growth through mentorship. The open knowledge sharing eases social inclusion for all ages, genders, cultural backgrounds and educational levels. We provide Mentorspaces for academia, industry as well as the public sector and community.

Inicio collaborates with e.g libraries, youth centres, schools, industry partners and several public sector initiatives for urban development and social innovation. We offer regular open workshops for example designing mobile apps, creating artistic robots, exploring programming or building sensors for health and well-being. From 2016 we have organised special events celebrating the International Girls in ICT Day to empower and encourage girls and young women to consider careers in the growing field of ICT.

Learning Analytics

The educational system is challenged by the digital transformation of society and how to provide relevant training and advice for a generation who are uncertain of their career choices and the opportunities of higher education. Inicio has developed a method for gathering data from how their workshop participants learn. Having learning analytics to understand what motivates students and evaluate their personal growth from digital skills training is of great value to all educators.

  • During my last year of high school I wanted to do a quite ambitious examination project. Since my school lacked the resources for a project like mine I reached out to the Mentorspace for help. I was amazed of the kindness and competence in the Mentorspace. Every time I walked through this door I meet someone new who was exited to help me, a high school student without a clue of what I was doing. The Mentorspace allowed me to learn everything from PCB design to RFID to laser cutting and more and I got to meet a ton of awesome people from all over the world and have one of the best years of my life.

  • Södertälje Science Park had the privilege to work with Inicio at the School kick-off days for Södertälje Science week. The digital tech workshops, facilitated by Inicio, where students built a small robot was one of the highlights of the kick-off event. The team enthusiasm and personal engagement combined with a pedagogical methodology inspired even the most skeptical students to take an interest in technology, electronics and creative prototyping. I think Inicio provided a fantastic concept for developing future talents in Södertälje.
